WILD PLATE: Modern Living Cuisine. A Raw Food Story of Art and Cooking ~Laurel Anderson
“For the uninitiated, a raw food diet is predominantly vegan and never heated above a temperature of 118*F. It isn’t grilled, steamed, or cooked in any way that might damage the delicate nutrients and enzymes contained within. Raw food contains living cells and is thus still ‘alive’ when you eat them. Almost every ingredient in this book, in its whole form is capable of sprouting and growing into something beautiful. How cool is that?” BOOK JACKET
WILD PLATE is a cookbook and a work of art. There is an amazing rush of joy when someone you know creates something so beautiful and healthy one just wants to jump for joy and tell the whole world. I have eaten many of the delights found within this book, I am awaiting the arrival of a couple of ingredients to actually dig in and prepare some of these amazing foods-particularly the award winning chili, which is just yummy beyond measure.
Let me tell you a bit about Laurel Anderson. We met Laurel when my girls arrived at Elementary School. She was a dancer even then and went on to become a professional after she finished her schooling – then again when are we ever done learning? Her father, Tom, is an artist and has done a number of projects together with my husband, an architect. Her mother, Karen, is part of my book group and we volunteered lots of hours at the school and became friends. Laurel became interested in nutrition; caring and healing to help bodies be beautiful while dancing and keeping healthy and strong. She has a number of clients for her catering and cooking services who have benefited from her inventive and lovely recipes. Then Laurel picked up a camera and found out how much she enjoyed creating and photographing her special foods. She is an artist with great talent.
Laurel designed, photographed, wrote and published WILD PLATE on her own with the assistance of Kickstarter, and the support of family and friends. Her art and tasty philosophy just radiate beauty on every page. The book has only been launched this June so I am alternating between keeping it on my coffee table to show everyone how beautiful it is and using it in the kitchen for the delicious and healthy food.
