WILD PLATE: Modern Living Cuisine. A Raw Food Story of Art and Cooking ~Laurel Anderson

“For the uninitiated, a raw food diet is predominantly vegan and never heated above a temperature of 118*F.  It isn’t grilled, steamed, or cooked in any way that might damage the delicate nutrients and enzymes contained within.  Raw food contains living cells and is thus still ‘alive’ when you eat them.  Almost every ingredient in this book, in its whole form is capable of sprouting and growing into something beautiful.  How cool is that?”   BOOK JACKET

wild plateWILD PLATE is a cookbook and a work of art.  There is an amazing rush of joy when someone you know creates something so beautiful and healthy one just wants to jump for joy and tell the whole world.   I have eaten many of the delights found within this book, I am awaiting the arrival of a couple of ingredients to actually dig in and prepare some of these amazing foods-particularly the award winning chili, which is just yummy beyond measure.

Let me tell you a bit about Laurel Anderson. We met Laurel when my girls arrived at Elementary School.  She was a dancer even then and went on to become a professional after she finished her schooling – then again when are we ever done learning?  Her father, Tom, is an artist and has done a number of projects together with my husband, an architect. Her mother, Karen, is part of my book group and we volunteered lots of hours at the school and became friends.   Laurel became interested in nutrition; caring and healing to help bodies be beautiful while dancing and keeping healthy and strong.  She has a number of clients for her catering and cooking services who have benefited from her inventive and lovely recipes.  Then Laurel picked up a camera and found out how much she enjoyed creating and photographing her special foods.  She is an artist with great talent.

Dark Chocolate MouseLaurel designed, photographed, wrote and published WILD PLATE on her own with the assistance of Kickstarter, and the support of family and friends.  Her art and tasty philosophy just radiate beauty on every page.  The book has only been launched this June so I am alternating between keeping it on my coffee table to show everyone how beautiful it is and using it in the kitchen for the delicious and healthy food.

drinkIf you wish to purchase a copy of the book you will not find it on the big online bookstores. More pictures and the purchase store are found at www.wild-plate.com.

There are videos of processes she uses found there also. Well worth the link over and an opportunity to see the pictures.

  • Orange Blossom Shredded Coconut Macaroons (p238)

Raw ChiliBread, pizza, cheeses, dips, truffles, salads and condiments, entrees – just everything to delight the palate! And everything is Gluten Free and Dairy Free.

The website has lots of wonderful tutorials and suggestions, and some video lessons, it is as fun as the book.

I have purchased a copy of WILD PLATE to give away.  Why would you want such a beautiful work of art, why do you want to understand and create living food?  This is going to someone who gives me a great comment – yep I am giving one signed copy of this stunning work of art for a great comment.

First of all, I couldn’t get the link to work, but this one did – http://www.wild-plate.com/#!store/cfx9. It’s a beautiful site and the book looks yummy. It’s so cool you know the author. It must be nice to review her book and to sample the recipes.

Now, my husband has a birthday around the corner and you’ve just given me an excellent idea of something he might enjoy. He loves cook books, anyway! He’s a chef…well, now retired, but he still cooks for me. I’m rather lucky:~)

Thanks for this review, Patricia and I wish Laurel great success with the book and, as the site hinted, the TV show:~)

It is wonderful to know the author and to have tasted her fabulous food. The book also has terrific shopping ideas and section on tools needed.

Yes my retired biologist now master chef has so many cookbooks his wife has put her foot down about any more! It must go with the territory and the love of food!

Several celebrities who are Laurel’s clients I believe are working on getting her on Ellen. That will be quite a boost. I think she should also try for NPR as this would change the world

thank you so much for your wonderful comments…and keep on writing your fun short stories…You go girl

A few years ago, a woman opened a raw, vegan restaurant & spa out in the country where I live. The location was beautiful, the idea inspired, though a bit remote. She’s since closed (not enough traffic to support the amazing things she was doing there). I enjoyed eating the raw, vegan meals quite a bit.

I’m no longer vegan, but appreciate what an art it is to prepare dishes fresh from the earth that actually taste like 5-star restaurant meals.

Awesome about this book — thanks for bringing it to the world’s attention!

I like to support the arts and wisdom. We have a new vegan raw restaurant been open a year on the heels of one that closed after 4 years.

The book was created because our community banded together to support a wonderful effort by one of our own. We helped her get a $150,000.00 grant from Kickstarter….I think we can build on this gift and get more folks eating beautiful food

I need to eat flexible style, but the 31 days I ate Vegan Raw, like Jim pure and straight from the earth , I lost 29 pounds and felt absolutely great.

But it is also lovely to have gourmet choices and party it up!
I think there are enough people in our community to support a full service raw restaurant…and they not have to vanish so soon.

Thank you my dear for your good comment – I am re-reading your gem of a book right now – still working on and making progress on the financial front :)

We do not truly get summer until after the 4th of July!! rain and wind here – but oh my what a stunning autumn

I am having the final jaw and tooth surgeries this summer so am happy I have quite a few books to read and share. July will be my last month on the big book challenge and I feel like 20 books a month is too many books for me. I am like a reading machine. I still think I will get in my 200 books for 2014 goal.

I have been enjoying your A_Z reads as often as I am able and I thank you for such a grand write up. I just wish I was able to get there more often….but so many books, so little time

We have just finished the chili recipe for a week with cashew cream and with the dehydrator empty of strawberries the bread in next on my list. I think folks do not know how absolutely wonderful and fancy vegan food can be. New taste sensations every day – and yes to have watched this lovely young woman grow and blossom is just a treat in itself.

The food is very healing and a wonderful change of pace. My partner has just chosen to control his cholesterol by giving up dairy products and he is having amazing results already. I think it is because there is not dairy, wheat, gluten, in any of these tasty delights.
    a beautiful work of art
Thanks for coming on by – always a delight to find you here

Sure thing I want to do this. I also advertised at the farmers market for this weekend.
Hoping there will be more comments
August 1 I will let everyone know who won

I think more folks need to understand how delicious it can be to eat this way. How filling and not as expensive as some people think.
