CODE TO JOY: The Four Step Solution to Unlocking Your natural State of Happiness ~by George Pratt, Ph.D., and Peter Lambrou, Ph.D., with John David Mann

Dear Readers,

I just could not wait to tell you about CODE TO JOY because I found it a truly transformational book for me personally and because it is such a well explained step by step process that lightened my spirit tremendously.

This book is about the neuroplasticity of the brain, and is similar to the brain physicians’ book, YOU ARE NOT YOUR BRAIN   which I already reviewed and  connected many copies to folks. I felt the scientists were great and informative and I was excited about their results, but I felt one truly would need a counselor or an advocate to achieve success. This book is written by psychologists who are using these 4 steps in their practice daily and having very favorable results.   It is a book that is so well written most of us could practice these steps ourselves and truly make changes in our lives towards greater happiness.

I did go to their website to learn how to do self-muscle testing.  I was not very successful and I tracked down a  friend who was skilled at muscle testing and she assisted  me in about 15 minutes in getting the answers I needed.   I think self-muscle testing takes a bit more practice to figure out, but even a week later I am getting better at it.  Like a valuable listener, she also used her own set of summary words and that assisted me in getting even clearer messages.  I felt lighter in spirit right away and even the folks in my yoga workshop commented on the “lightness of my spirit”.   I discovered the next day I had released 5 pounds and they have remained off my body.

I am an intense optimist by nature and I have been working very hard to overcome several problems which are frustrating me.   I often feel like I am pushing a huge boulder up a proverbial mountain and I am so fatigued with the effort I cannot find joy or happiness.  Then I worry.

The lovely anecdotal stories in the book and the descriptive words of guidance just enabled me to figure out I have spent years pushing up the wrong mountain!   I was working on another negative belief pattern all together and thus was doing all the right things but not getting results.  My subconscious brain was working overtime to solve the stuckness and I was doing everything just right but finding no solutions.

The power of this book is that it is short, clear, and very step by step of how to make change in your life that truly brings about results and for me a clear sense of joy.  Everyone can do this for themselves or with the help of a good friend/listener.

For some folks who do the steps they will be on their way right way.  I believe I will need to practice  these steps on a daily basis  to get proficient and find ease.  I do not mind because I am getting positive reinforcement and results right away – where has all that dopamine been all these years?  To be rid of the fatigue, worry, and depression is amazing, and it will benefit my Listening Skills at Wiseears.com tremendously.

At the conclusion of the book, the authors give a shout out to Positive Psychology. I found the best and most humorous introduction was by Shawn Achor in this TED lecture.  The authors practice Energy Psychology and as they teach one how to change and reprogram your brain they recognize that folks need to program more positivity into their routines.

This book and these 4 steps worked for me and I believe these steps can assist many people in making change in their lives.

tlclogoI was sent this book for review by TLC book tours (and I am grateful) and Harper One publishers.

Sounds like a great book! It’s great that it was able to help you figure out you were working on a negative belief pattern that wasn’t working and helped you find a better way to get some solutions. And that is interesting about the self-muscle testing too, glad it’s worked for you!

    Brittany,
I was impressed by the muscle testing to understand the sub-conscious mind and thinking.

I am still working on this book and information because it is opening up other pathways and I am feeling much lighter and have much more energy.

    That’s a good book!

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a pathetic muscle tester. But I’m a whiz-bang at using a pendulum instead. Great post, thank you!

    suzen,
I just know you will like this book very much – and is short enough and to the point there is great understanding in just the first reading – the exercises are just awesome and fun

I just feel lighter and I think that is vital – a reward that I can feel all the time.
Thanks for taking time out of your huge schedule to drop by and comment

Congratulations on the weight loss, Patricia!!!

What is interesting is that you felt lighter in spirit *before* you discovered you’d lost the weight. So happy for you.

This book obviously had a tremendous effect on you. It would be great to hear other folk’s experiences after they’ve read the book.

    Davina,
It was quite a book to read and work through. I am still working on it and yes I feel lighter in spirit and can bring that feeling back quite quickly…With so much wonder full company this weekend, I found I could really push the sense of abandonment away and move more freely – not so worried about everyone going home.

I think the book opens up more steps to self-love, because with their easy to use steps one can check on a feeling right way and not let it wander away with the emotional tide…Now I need to work on this in other areas of my life…clean up more of those old beliefs
