American Ingenuity – or Crisis Intervention to Discover Success

How do you feel when someone says something that makes you think in a new direction?

Is it worrisome? Do you find yourself defending the old idea? Do you want immediate proof and all the research available on this new idea?

When someone intrigues a new direction in my thinking, I am amazed and full of wonder.  I am just instantly hungry for more information and more links to more ideas that lead in that direction.  I quite often go out of my way to hear someone speak who has new ideas – just for the curiosity rush I get.

Psychological development studies suggest that we humans lock in many of our foundational ideas, and are thus able to finally understand the importance of history, at about the age of 10 to 12.  It takes often a magnificent or painful experience to shift our thinking at its basic foundational levels.

And sometimes don’t we just wish someone else would handle this mess and just get us out of it?

When I was younger, my parents had a phrase that they used to keep worry under control and I liked it a lot. When a serious crisis would arise they would say, “Give it time and American Ingenuity will find a solution!”  My Father was sure that we would develop a newly powered vehicle in the 1970’s gas crisis and he was holding out to purchase a new car, sure it would emerge very soon because of American Ingenuity.

I have just come from a conference and the guest speaker was evidence that American Ingenuity was hard at work in his teaching and architectural practice.  For over 10 years Ed Mazria has cut 50% of the energy use out of the building’s he has designed and built.  He has done his research and tweaked the ideas and concepts he learned to gain a new vision of how to end our dependence on oil and to cut our carbon emissions – and with such beauty.  His ideas provide millions of jobs and cost the tax payer substantially less money.

Mr. Mazria then invited us to share his insight and presentation with all those old thinkers and policy maker folks…..of course his ideas will not help the oil barons or the coal mine owners, but they might allow all of us a breath of fresh air, a job, and a future…

I invite you to venture to his website and look at the Ingenuity presented first hand….

I hope you will find it startling to your ideas and concepts, full of amazing and beautiful vision, and wonder about how his successes are truly working for people….and you will enjoy his designs and tickle your thinking?

Let me know?  I value your thoughts and ideas?  Were you amazed?
I am sending his address on to our Governor, Senators, and Representatives –what about you?
Looking forward to your comments…

Hi Patricia: I visited the architecture2030 web site. It says that their mission is to achieve a dramatic reduction in the global-warming-causing greenhouse gas emissions of the Building Sector by changing the way buildings and developments are planned, designed and constructed. I think that’s incredibly important.

I also like your father’s phrase: “Give it time and American Ingenuity will find a solution!” Although I would change it to human ingenuity :-)

Marelisa, thank you for your comments and I think human ingenuity would be a good change to the phrase indeed.

Vered, I am enjoying reading all the comments on your poverty piece and Marelisa’s…and thank you for checking out my referral.

What I liked about Architecture2030 is this design group has needed to get others to design new air flow systems, doors, windows, panels, that also use 50% energy – thus creating new work and jobs for new workers who build the new systems…all having to use 50% less energy….thousands of new “green” jobs are being developed with each new project. I think people like to work and create new things and be useful. Wow think about everyone getting a chance to change the world for what I think is the better.

Thanks Patricia – I will check the site out. I always enjoy it when something challenges my way of thinking on a particular subject and I like to explore it more.

Thank you for your comment…I am amazed to think that this team has been reducing energy use in buildings up to 50% and creating new jobs for 10 years and I just now found out about it….I hope I can find some of the stunning buildings on the site too…just sorry we have not being doing this since the last crisis in 1973…it’s not too late to get started…
