Factoid Friday: Bonus

A poem I had to memorize in 6th Grade and it still brings a smile!

A gourmet challenged me to eat
A tiny bit of rattlesnake meat,
“Don’t look so horror stricken
You’ll find it tastes a lot like chicken.”
It did.
Now chicken I cannot eat,
Because it tastes like rattlesnake meat!
~ Ogden Nash

    Vered,
Thank you for leaving a comment…this verse still makes me chuckle.

I wonder how folks will do without memorizing verses and things any more. I think they don’t do that in school now…and it seems always nice to pull back up those moments and ideas through memory work. ??? Computers must ease that skill off somewhat?

Hi Patricia – that is so funny. People do tend to develop negative associations with some food though don’t they. I couldn’t eat Ambrosia Creamed rice for years, because I was eating it when the tree fell on the little girl in Little House on the Prairie.

    Hi Cath
I have never eaten rattlesnack meat! And my Aunt Betty used to make us Ambrosia Creamed Rice when we would visit. My mum was a Brit via Canada and my Dad was from Scotland. I don’t think I had Ambrosia Rice in the US

I remember that scene well and how upset folks were at school the day after…WOW

I red the comments here and then just happened upon this story on digg… Good for a laugh!
