HEALING AND PREVENTION THROUGH NUTRITION: A Holistic Approach to Eating and Living for Optimal Health, Weight, and Wellness ~Evita Ochel

Monday, December 29th, 2014

I have been following Evita Ochel on her blog, website and Facebook for about eight years, I hope someday to meet her and talk in person, and she has been an inspiration for me time and time again when it comes to food, lifestyle, documentary choices, and healing.  Evita has never failed to answer any of my questions, she often refers me to whole essays she has written and she encouraged me in several juice fasts we did on line together.

This is her new book and updated second edition about healing, food and choices.  The book is geared towards explaining and educating the reader in what we have learned about nutrition, lifestyles, and healing in the most recent explosion of information.  Evita sorts out the test results, the resources, and the economically motivated myth making of advertisers.  There is a whole ream of truly significant known facts in this book, there is a great deal of research and de-mythologizing about what terms means and how they affect the way we eat, there is a solid understanding of our beliefs and how a body and mind are able to change, and there is an open discussion about resources available and how to utilize them to your advantage.  There is no preaching and “have to’s”, it is just teaching at its best level and the science is definitely presented in an appropriate reading- comprehension style.   The author wants the reader to know and understand; Food and eating are a whole person responsibility.

The politics, the economics and the environment are fully and skillfully covered.  You make the right choices for yourself and your family. Good review of the tools that work best for a healthy, healing kitchen.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined health as ‘a state of complete physical, mental, and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’”  (Page 123)

For 39 years I have been cooking, growing and healing with food for my family.  I have often wished I had someone to talk with about Celiac Disease and Allergies and I found that person in Evita and am delighted to share her wisdom as found in her offering of HEALING AND PREVENTION THROUGH NUTRITION.    I was on my own in tracking down raw, pesticide free, GMO free grains and seeds – I had my own mill and no designer Gluten Free Kits for food.  Evita shares the links and connections; it is wonderful to discover so many of them are right here in my area and I have been using their products for years.

I very HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. I am often asked to cook for other people and families, I did that in my younger years as I helped individuals make nutrition changes and create healing their lives. I will now recommend HEALING AND PREVENTION THROUGH NUTRITION for those requests. I will highly recommend WILD-PLATE by Laurel Anderson for those who want to make the gourmet shift in eating and preparation. HEALING AND PREVENTION THROUGH NUTRITION is all the facts and the easiest-simplest of preparation modes.

Evita Ochel sent me an iBook copy of this book for review.  How lucky am I?

Step by step make some healthy choices for the New Year – what have you got to lose?
