Wakes Up All My Senses

I woke up it was a Chelsea Morning
And the first thing that I heard
Was a song outside my window
And the traffic wrote the words
It came ringing up like Christmas Bells
Rapping up like pipes and drums

Oh won’t you stay we’ll put on the day
And we’ll wear it ‘till the night comes

I woke up it was a Chelsea Morning
And the first thing that I saw
Was the sun through yellow curtains
And a rainbow on my wall
Blue, red, green and gold to welcome you
Crimson crystal bead to beckon

Oh won’t you stay and we’ll put on the day
There’s a sun show every second

Now the curtain opens on a portrait of today
And the streets are paved with passersby
Pigeons fly and papers lie
Waiting to blow away

I woke up it was a Chelsea Morning
And the first thing that I knew
There was milk and toast and honey
And a bowl of orange juice too
And the light poured in like butterscotch
Stuck to all my senses

Oh won’t you stay and we’ll put on the day
And we’ll talk in present tenses

When the curtain closes
And the rainbow runs away
I will bring you incense owls by night
By jewel light, by candle light, if only you will stay
Oh my darling won’t you wake up, it’s a Chelsea Morning

This song by Joni Mitchell just makes me feel alive.  The beauty of summer is here and we are awakening to  marine air burning off to 77’F (25’C) days and cooling to 50’F (10’C) nights – Stunning.  Breathtaking. Exquisite.

“What makes you sing a song or happy dance or just feel full of joy?” — my kids are coming back tonight after spending a month with their grandparents! Yay!

I love me some Joni Mitchell so thank you for that, Patricia. I’ve been having issues with blogger, but I think I’ve got them all resolved and things are finally back to normal now.

The first song I heard on the radio today was the oldie, “Flip, Flop and Fly” – I have to confess it had me bee-bopping before I even had a coffee! :)

Hope the blogger problems are worked out – those things I find hard to make joyful….
Yep just feel better with a good song

I always liked this song:~) It’s nice to see the words.

Regarding the weather, ours is not so nice. We have a heat index of about 105 degrees F almost every day. No one wants to be outside for very long:~)

On the other hand, I’m pleased you are enjoying your summer. It sounds like you’ve been VERY busy.

This summer has been very different lots of activity and then lots of needing to be still…and too much responsibility at least it has been cool and not as hot as you are experiencing. I am no longer very good in the heat…

Though on the sunny nice days here, it is like a snow day and I just have to get outside…so I am getting lots accomplished on the cloudy cool days!

Being in nature, especially in the company of trees.

We just spent three days in the farm country and flat lands driving…each time we headed into a mountain pass it was a blessing to find those trees….This has been the summer of the chain saw here in our neighborhood and it has made a huge, huge difference – I wonder what it will do to our clean air?

This is funny. I actually have a happy dance. I do it all the time. It’s not choreographed or anything, I just sort of clap and boogie a bit. It’s not sophisticated, but it’s happy. :)

I have to confess. I had no idea who Joni Mitchell was, but this was a lovely song. Thanks for sharing, Patricia!

Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Carly Simons just seemed to write the songs that defined my youth. Joni is mostly a painter these days…

I too have a happy dance that I began doing when I found it was so helpful to shake up my thinking and help me make change…something physical I could do that truly made a difference.

When I was singing in college and touring – I always got requests to do songs by these folks…

I also really enjoy being in nature. Sacred dance and yoga are great joyfulness bringers :-) Glad you’re having a great summer, Patricia :-)

Thank you – yes I am having quite the summer and very busy, busy – right now with vegetables into the freezer. We have had very few sunny mornings this year – mostly marine air (fog) until the afternoon. It was so amazing to wake up to clear lovely sunrise and shine, I just had to dance and sing

I am glad you have some joy makers too

Hi Patricia! I agree that song is filled with joys that none of us should miss. My joy begins each day when I wake up and I’m darn glad I do! That sure gets the joy train rolling for me!

I know that feeling – just happy to still be here and alive. With the adrenal problems I have – sometimes just getting out of bed is so hard.

Having a sunrise just seem to be rare this summer…more like noon burn off here :)

    Happy singing

    Hi Patricia,
Thank you for reminding me of that beautiful song! (I am a HUGE Joni Mitchell fan!)
What Makes me do my happy dance?
Time spent outdoors walking and being fully in the moment with what is around me. I am so grateful to have made space to experience that often!
    Thanks for asking!

How funny, I was thinking of “Miachel From Mountains” the other day, about how the rain came down and umbrellas were bright on a grey background. From her first album that was. And this from, I think, her 2nd.

What makes me do a happy dance is feeling a bit hungry, so I can enjoy my next meal.
