What a wonderful idea Patricia!!! Everyone needs to be heard, and in our increasingly disconnected world (i.e. less personal contact, more internet friends, decentralized families…) it can sometimes be hard to connect and find someone to listen.

This is such a cool idea! I love the one “Steam Valve Venting!” I imagine you’ll get quite people who take advantage of that one.
How on earth did you come with this idea? I don’t think I’ve seen this before.

I got the idea from the PEANUTS cartoon strip – you know Lucy in her booth with Advice 5 cents! That image kept coming to me when I thought about what a talented counselor I am. My state created new definitions and requirements for Licensing counselors and did not grandfather me in…I would have had to get a Doctorate to continue to get Malpractice Insurance…Then this image just kept popping into my head of the cartoon…and I thought why not, listening is my greatest gift and it would help people be their best selves….win/win
3 clients came right away…and now my first 2 signups for the newsletter – on my way…

Hi Patricia — this seems to me like such a great fit for you — I’ve been curious for a while about how you would work with someone in person, and perhaps witnessing you do this by phone or Skype is the closest I will come to that. But in any event I’m excited for you.

Thanks Chris for you vote of confidence…I have not figured out SKYPE yet, but have a USA phone number to use which is similar – maybe a video in the future…baby steps,
I have been doing pre-marriage counseling for a number of folks over the years by email…amazingly enough this works better than in person and on the phone…the responses are better written and then reviewed as a chat team…I started by working with people where one partner did not live in the same locations as the other….
I think blogging has brought me more insight about the questions to ask to connect people to the values they are attempting to sort

Hi Galen – thank you for coming on by.
I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling and another in Adult Education and 34 years working as a counselor – and for businesses and the State. It is similar to Stephen Ministries for sure but I think it is bigger than that.
Every crucial decision needs to be listened to and usually by someone other than a peer or family member. With my mediation certification – I have often been called on to work with ethical decision making, business plan changes, and career planning – in those cases there it is necessary for there to be no involvement/ neutrality in the issue
We all need to be heard and listened to and I think there is a lot of shouting going on with out any real results. I think I have a skill and talent in this area

I enjoy working with the teens too who are trying to decide about college, other plans and how to communicate with their parents – I think they like the low cost and being rather anonymous
