I just LOVE that quote on creativity, hits it bang on, I think!! I LOVE that alone totally absorbed time when im’ in that creative zone.

This sounds like such a gripping read, Immigrant stories always fascinate me. One of my favs (well, I only saw the movie,) was Tom Hanks’ “The Terminal.” Didn’t you just LOVE that show??

But Patricia!! if you keep on recommending so many AWESOME books, how will I ever keep up with all my favorite blog reading too??

I think this story was told in the perfect voice – there is so much yelling, screaming and blaming going on these days and then women especially get so hard on themselves. This story was just right; more like how we would want it to be.
Puget Sound is beautiful , hope you will find a reason to visit.

Patricia, I love that excerpt. Really, it describes art and the artistic process perfectly. It’s about what you want to express, but also just as much about what people want to take from your art… and the connection that can therefore be made between such geographically (and perhaps even ideologically) isolated parties.

This could be an interesting read then…

I loved your words “gracious storyteller” and “gentle story” because they so aptly describe how I received this novel myself. I think it was told beautifully, of a complex situation many women must face: caring for themselves as well as those they love. As my dear parents age, and my son is 19, I find myself needed in ways I haven’t been before. Anyway, I agree that this is a lovely book, and I envy you the excursions to Vashton or any other part of Seattle. Being a midwestern girl, I’ve not seen the Northwest. Yet. ;

Hilary,
We are having an unusually dark and rainy spring – this morning the sun came out – I can feel the relief in my whole being, and I got in a great walk.

You might want to refer this book to folks who are in the sandwich generation – boomers…..lots of truth here

This is truly a beautiful part of the world and the island area of Puget Sound is quite stunning. Come for a visit when you are able.
