Barbara,
One reason I am highlighting a neighbor who bought her first house, is I would like to emphasize that our house is no longer the “storage unit” for the kids lives. I too am decluttering and taking back my own life – I am so ready, it’s just that they are not! Timing sometimes is everything!

Oh food on the table! awesome concept.
I too made doll houses out of boxes – and one time I made roads by picking out the Chenille on the bedspread – wow was that a problem in my future!!!. This child made so many doll houses – shoe box art was her forte.

Hi Patricia,

What a great idea – having a neighborhood get together. The doll house makes for a perfect centerpiece.

As I was looking at your photos it reminded me of when I used to collect miniatures. I never had a doll house to put them in, but I sure loved to look at how detailed they were made – all to scale. When I started decluttering, I decided it was time to let the miniatures go. They had served their purpose. *sigh*.

For my house, I like to have things that when I look at them, they make my heart sing and me smile.

I’ve always loved doll houses like this. My sisters and I didn’t have a store-bought one so we’d make our own. We turned cardboard boxes on their sides and cut windows and doors in them. We even made a second story and would make a stairway too. And furniture. It was loads of fun.

When I have a party what I like on the table is food. Just good appies. If it’s a late evening party, maybe candles.

“What do you like on the table when you have a party?” Generally I just use flowers from my garden. I love the doll house! What a creative idea.

Oh I do remember the excitement of our first house, we were building it and painting it ourselves. Our energy was boundless.

I have included the neighborhood children for the party, so as party favors we are giving each child a tete a tete daffodil to take home, but first I will put the dozen pots around the doll house to add flowers!. Your party sounds delightful and fun.

Today is full of sun breaks after a huge wind storm, I am running around the yard getting branches up and a drain gutter…I think this party will add some sunshine to the neighborhood mid-winter. Yes, our new neighbors are putting in the elbow grease inside and out. Good energy abounds.

I can just imagine you on the table with a shell necklace? Hard on the tea pot!!! You were having a number of parties and setting the trend – I just needed to keep up!

I will look forward to seeing you at the door! Lots and lots of good food coming out too….and wee daffodils around the doll house. I am dusting and cleaning today the other doll house that the children can play with when here…I am rather excited over this prospect of entertaining and getting connected.

Hi Patricia .. I’ve always had fresh flowers around at parties – depending on space, not possible always. Food glorious food .. all sorts – depending on what I feel like cooking .. most often now I do a large variety, so it’s help yourself – suits all palates.

Gosh – what a difference a new looking house makes to the street – wonderful and a generous gesture for everyone to have a look – but keep pristine, while you offer the wonderful goodies across the road. Sounds delicious .. if you end up with an unexpected English speaking guest don’t be surprised!

My first flat – terribly simple and very early 70s .. times have changed .. I’m now into Persian – African hues .. though I too have Cornish cream walls and white paint!! Lots and lots of pictures – too many!! It’s a fun home .. not ideal .. but whereever is .. we make it what it is – not easy to entertain in .. not to say I have the time now!

Enjoy Saturday .. but the idea of the doll’s house is great – what a wonderful ongoing homecoming idea .. love it -
