Barbara,
Thank you for coming on by - I really have had 23 years of DIY but of taking care of others. I am being very selfish right now and putting ME #1....all the time - that is the primary difference. I used the 21 days of the trip as my transition to this state of selfishness and it has worked well.

Hi Patricia,

You're awesome. To think you have been planning for this and then to put it into action and have such success. You deserve a huge pat on the back.

That's true what JD said about many people using DIY for their own health care. No one knows our bodies as well as we do. And the more we read, the more we find out it's often what we've been putting into our bodies that is making us sick.

Evita,
Thank you for sharing with Dot....Yep we do not need all this study we just need to clean up our bodies and eat "real" food.

I am eating 2Tblsp of Olive Oil a day and 2 Tblsp of vinegar or lemon juice a day on my salads Dr. F. only suggests 2 Tsp. a day - Actually I find if I just eat the carrot and the romaine, and the broccoli and the celery - plain I do not need any dressing at all...and I love my cup of Kidney tea ( which is heavy parsley)

Julie suggested I just eat lots of little meals and that is helping me too.

Every eating plan has removed whole fruit - at 5 a day there is no sugar craving at all.

Jannie,
JD is one super guy and his writing info really does work - if you do it!

Yep! I have been home for quite a while.
Walking 30 minutes a day for one year is equal to losing 30 pounds a year.

I think I have been over exercising - 2 hours a day of weights and swimming and 6 days a week for years....and years....

I do not think I was over exercising for the amount of stress I was enduring and attempting to cope with and retrain.

I found out about kidney's and stress hormones - it is no wonder I need to strengthen my kidneys and they give me stones in my pathway...and pain...

I am just one body - one container

One fear I had starting out this time, was that because fat cells hold the emotional hormones given off - would I have to feel all those emotions again as the fat cells opened and released.
The Medical Intuitive said "some" but not all - I could handle that

My post "I have been there..." was some of that emotional release that just bubbled up when I witnessed something on TV

Glad to find you here - Thank you Jannie for your comment and I appreciate your support

Dot,
I am hoping too this will improve my health. I was a vegan eater in 1971. I married a man with Celiac Disease and produced two children with each variation of the disease. I have been studying food and researching behaviors for food for 28 years.

I was persuaded when pregnant to eat differently - including meat and cheese ( cheese is something I have never liked or milk) I have always exercised.

I ground the grains to make the bread.

I have always wanted to be healthy.
After my Ovarian Cancer bout in 1994, I kept gaining weight, no matter what I did. I tried Weight Watchers and Gained 24#s...I tried Optifast and was a counselor - gained 81#s as soon as I stopped.

I did the American Diabetes Diet with a Dietitian for 3 years and have come so close to having diabetes with every passing year.
I did the Glucose Index program for 9 months. Now I was 100#s over weight...

I took Metformin for 6 days and gained over 18# was to ill to function so they took me off it - cold turkey

I am following Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live book and eating what feels right to me. I have needed a couple more days of grains than he has allowed for.

My body is liking this - with some bad moments (cleaning out days I just have to stay close to a bathroom all day) and some gas problems...I am very slowly losing weight and gaining energy.

Julie has been emailing me behind the scenes as has JD...

I have written several book reviews about food books on this site and am currently reading Pollen's book In Defense of Food.

I am using my journal and my DS Brainage player to relieve stress in the moments of stress - not waiting until later...

I am visiting Evita's blog and especially archives weekly.

I am going to keep blogging about what I am doing and looking at what everyone is sharing.

I think getting healthy is my "big thing"

I get distracted, but I am doing better at getting back on task daily now...
I think I am writing about 10 posts in this comment.
I am going to keep sharing here on PW....and keeping posts up to date.

I am focused on ME, finally after so many years of healing others and cooking for them.

Dot, if I may help a little with your question.... I am sure Patricia will have more to add.

I know it may seem confusing today as there are a lot of things being thrown at us where diet, nutrition and health are concerned. Is it margarine or is it butter? Drink coffee or not drink coffee and the list continues....

And you are very right, the traditional info is laden with government and big company influence, like the whole milk thing.

And in fact this is why I left formal teaching and decided to dedicate myself to helping people achieve optimal health, or at least great health in the most easiest and natural way as a holistic nutritionist.

So here are a few quick guidelines to make eating and being healthy easy, that don't need any study approval:

1. Don't fuss about ANY numbers - when we eat a natural and diverse diet of wholesome food, all numbers work out. Nature is kind and eating wasn't meant to be something we need a "degree" in.

2. Go natural, wholesome and organic when it comes to ALL food

3. Drop processed food and all fast food, yes this includes refined sugar

4. Re-condition your mind that healthy eating need not be expensive, hard or time consuming

5. Fresh fruits and/or vegetables should be the main part of every meal, not the side dish

I am sure Patricia will point you to Dr. Furhman's book "Eat to Live" - this is probably one of the best and most comprehensive places to start

After that the sky is the limit. As people are waking up to a more natural and healthy way of life, the amount of high quality resources just keeps growing...

Hope that helps, I am also available if you have any other specific questions. Always a pleasure to help in this area - it is my passion :)

Has it really been over whole 4 weeks since you came back from the UK? Seems to me like just a week ago.

If I were you I'd be very very, very proud and happy with myself and my health its own reward. Amazing plan and results. Inspiring to me too.

100 calories less day at 365 days. divided by 3500 is 12 lbs of weight loss.

And ain't JD one super guy?!?

This is fascinating and I'm so glad it's helping you so much. I hope this will continue to improve your health!

I seem to have missed out on where all this came from, though. I've found that information on diet is so confusing and conflicted. Some of the non-traditional information seems not to be very well researched, and the traditional information is suspect because it comes from a government supported by the food industry. Can you talk more about your sources?
