Hello Kim and thank you for stopping by,
I think rituals need changing, but I still like the little routines that add grounding our lives.

I think all Sundays or Mondays can be tense days...they are just most consistently days off for many people

This post made me feel hungry too. I guess our Sundays were structured when I was kind with church and a big meal later in the day. Like Dot - it was a little tense. It was usually the only day my Dad didn't work and my Mom wanted him to do stuff around the house while he wanted to do nothing and watch sports.

I don't have a Sunday ritual - it all depends on whether my daughter is with me and what the weather is like.

Jannie,
It was meant to be...Mine were all gifts and I had no idea how to care for them...I think it is better good luck than good fortune!

I am very surprised the rose bush Kelly and I planted 4 years ago has thrived. Just took a chance and got lucky.

Cricket - Tammy,
You are a great friend and I know that you were doing inner work you needed to do - and that is important too.
I will add your Mother to my healing prayer heart, if that is all right for you.

I am having a bit of a problem with moderation of comments today - sorry I am late to your comment.

Pruning feels very good, whether it is apple trees, roses, books, things.....I get lost in it when I get started...

I think it truly was the lovely smells that created this post...
I will have to try that inspiration again. ;)

Ribbon,
Sorry I am late to the table, but your comment got caught in moderation.

I think it was the lovely smells that created the post....

There were always lots and lots of children at my table over the years....we hosted a lot of friends at meal times....and that was good, because I knew where my kids were and what they were doing.

Most of the friends liked my cooking better than my kids! I liked all the good conversation....are you sending some my way?

Vered,
Thank you, It just felt like a beautiful day and the good smells just brought back so many thoughts and ideas.

Mama Zen,
Thank you for coming by and I am glad you enjoyed it - the day felt peaceful.

Dot,
My growing up Sundays were very rigid - it was nice to have a routine but it was inflexible - now I find myself enjoying the routine but having freed myself from the rigidity and rules.
My dad was off saving the world all the time, so we were not to disturb him on his day to relax when he was home.

Mark,
I like that the kiddos check in nearly every Sunday and that in the Spring and Summer my husband is home and able to spend time in the garden...our date of the week! In the winter we go to the gym together at 5am as our date...
We had roast beef, baked potatoes and veggie - almost always frozen strawberries and ice cream for dessert unless there was company coming and then pie - cake (Like bar cookies were part of the weekly fare.

Thank-you for sharing your Sunday! Sound delicious. When I was a child, Sunday dinner was a 1:00 and it was almost always roast beef, mashed potatoes and whatever vegetable was in season. There was also always a cake or pie for dessert.
Sunday's for me today vary, however often times we will have friends and family over for a big dinner. I usually go to the grocery store on Sunday morning and much of the day is spent cleaning and or doing yard work.

Sounds like a great day!

In my parents' house, Sundays meant my mother slept late because of her undiagnozed problems, probably an autoimmune diseaes. My Dad went to work seven days a week. Sundays were always a gloomy day. Either we children were forced to go to whatever church my mother thought we should try (she and my Dad didn't go to any), or Mom would cook a big dinner, even though she knew Dad nevre came home for dinner. Then she'd have a fit because he came home too late for dinner. Repeat the following Sunady.

Now my Sunday is sitting around in my flannel pj's with the capuccino cup and coffee bean print, drinking coffee, possibly eating a bagel with lox cream cheese, reading or watching TV.

Hey there sweetie,

I have not been a loyal friend. I am so sorry. I have had some turbulent waters come about. My mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer and I have not been able to function mentally. I have decided to "prune" away at my own pity and get moving.

I needed to read something like this. You know I am a avid gardener. I just finished moving my grandmothers remaining plants/roses, etc. to my garden. 60+ of them. It has taken me some years but I am officially finished.

Oh, I am getting carried away with my own life on your blog. This post has opened up my mind.

I also went to Church on Sunday nights. We did not chores or work on Sunday. It was always the day of rest. I loved it.

Now, I try to do the same with my children. I do cook a huge Sunday lunch and we try to stay low.

Ah.....yes I prune and I love it.

Hugs to you.
