Factoid Friday: Kauai – The Garden Island of Hawaii

As I prepare for my trip to Hawaii, I thought I would share some interesting things I learned about the Island of Kauai.

Hawaii at Sunset

  • 45% of the coastline of Kauai is deserted.
  • Kauai is on the Northern most island in the chain.
  • The National Tropical Botanical Gardens are located here.
  • There are 5 distinct parts of Kauai which are: the North Shore, The South Shore, the Coconut Coast, Westside, Gateway – Lihue.
  • Endangered bird species are protected here as are native plants.
  • There are lots of hiking trails and spectacular views.
  • There are lots of activities from boat rides to quiet hikes and massage centers.
  • The Kauai Inn is located on a 3 acre tropical plantation and is in the heart of the historic – cultural center of the Island.
  • Many State Parks are located here.
  • There is a Kayak trip to explore Huleia Stream and the wild bird sanctuary.
  • The Island has lots of waterfalls, dramatic views, and the mountains come down to the stunning beaches.
  • Whale watching is a big pastime on this island.
  • Everyone who has been to Kauai can tell you their favorite spot and adventure and they all say the people are the best.

Have you been to Kauai? What did you find to be your favorite spot?
Why would you like to go again?
If you have not been, what ideas are conjured up when someone talks about Hawaii?
Looking forward to hearing what you have to share….Thank you

Hi Patricia – How wonderful. When are you going? Hawaii is high on my to do list and Kauai sounds the most appealling of the islands. Apparently it’s less commercialized.

I am going to teach 2 workshops Oct 1 then on to Honolulu for the end of the 10 days…I am taking a laptop to attempt to write about what I am seeing and experiencing.

I hear that the giant, canned resorts are coming so I wanted to get to Kauai while it is still known as the cultural heritage center and the garden isle.
I put 4 vacation days in the middle of my trip
Another “out of house experience in my life!”
Thank you for your comments…and I hope you can go visit soon.

As it turns out we have a trip planned to Kauai in November. We are thrilled to learn as much as we can about the beautiful island before we go. We are sad that you will not be there when we are there as we would love to rendezvous with YOU!

    Hey Meggin,
I can’t believe it, you are going to Kauai in November…remember when you were going to Hawaii on the Halloween weekend we went to Maui to study spa fixtures for a project!!! That was so fun running into you wonderful people on the way to vacation -what fun it would have been to connect again on this venture. Once again I am working, but squeezed in 4 days of R&R in the middle..hip hurrah!
Delighted to discover your comments today – Thank you

    Oh Pat, how exciting.

I’ve been to Hawaii twice but not to Kauai. It is an amazing place. Take lots of pictures so you can share them with us.

Have a safe trip, and lots of fun!

Barbara, I am finding myself disappointed if I don’t get a comment from Barbara – I have to say I am so excited today, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.
I bought myself a digital camera so I hope I can follow through on the pictures part and maybe be like Ulla and do picture and comment posts.
I believe I am a bit giddy about leaving all the apples behind – oh well! we have enough for this year! and maybe next!

I will be on line…and connecting. Thank you for you comments and great posts
