You are right about the quote not being all of Goethe's words, it is the quote I have had on my bathroom mirror for about 40 years from one of my theology teachers in Grad school...it is inspiring.. So here is my due diligence. The Goethe Society of North America Via Librarian Hanks at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center and Stevenson's Home Book of Quotations give Goethe the credit for " Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Only engage, and then the mind grows heated. Begin it, and the work will be completed." The complete quote is given to W.H. Murray's The Scottish Himalayan Expedition 1951 Which attributes the words of the last line to Goethe It is also attributed to John Anster in a "free" translation of FAUST in 1835. Katju Moser of the Society is given credit for documentation of the sources as accepted by the society. I guess I am a person who needs mythology to assist me in living my best life and in my best service to myself and others... I have just given away all my books on Gandhi that I had in my library - everyone of them included his thoughts on parenting and what he might have done to his children and especially his wife taking on his cause and actions.
